During her first visit to Southern California as Under Secretary of Commerce and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Michelle K. Lee will speak at the UCLA School of Law on Tuesday, July 28, 2015. During this public lecture, she will discuss the rapidly evolving intellectual property landscape, the role of universities in research and innovation, and her top priorities for USPTO.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Youth Policy Council made its first visit to a university campus last Saturday, choosing UCLA for a day of discussion centered on the possibilities of attending college.
The Youth Policy Council is a group of highly motivated 10th and 11th grade students who are interested in civic engagement, community and youth issues and the municipal government system. The students are encouraged to express their own views on how to improve government and affect change in their communities. There are eight regional councils that include 25 students each.
UCLA teams with National Immigration Forum
UCLA was an active participant in a roundtable discussion on July 9 regarding immigration and the path to citizenship, hosted by Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Office of Immigrant Affairs and the National Immigration Forum.
The Los Angeles Business Roundtable on Citizenship included Los Angeles employers who were brought in by the New American Workforce, a project of the National Immigration Forum that facilitates citizenship assistance by working with employers to offer a range of citizenship services and support to employees.
