Calendar: State and Federal Legislators Line Up Summer Public Events

Los Angeles area elected officials often spend their legislative recesses back home, participating in local events and taking face-to-face meetings with constituents.

At the state level, both the Assembly and Senate continue to recess through late August. Federal elected officials just came back at the beginning of this month, and many have events and are holding office hours through the beginning of September.

UCLA Advocate In Action: Shirley Wang Helps Build A Lasting Foundation For Higher Education

Shirley Wang is the founder and CEO of Plastpro Inc., Chair of The UCLA Foundation board, and also a well-regarded philanthropist.

Shirley Wang’s grandfather fled the Communist Revolution in China, and the lesson he learned has been a guiding light for her family: “He realized that one could lose his or her possessions, home, and even country or family members. But the one thing no one can take away from you is your education.”

The path Wang’s grandmother and mother blazed before her may serve as even more of an inspiration for her ascent to becoming founder and CEO of Plastpro Inc., Chair of The UCLA Foundation board, and also a well-regarded philanthropist.

Vice Chancellor Letter: AVC Keith Parker Retirement Announcement

News of staff departures are always bittersweet, but never more so than when a colleague of longstanding tenure determines the time has come to retire.  After 36 years of dedicated service to UCLA, Keith Parker has decided that the end of December will mark his UCLA retirement. Mixed emotions abound … I am filled with gratitude for Keith’s longstanding leadership, humbled by his commitment to the University for more than three and a half decades, and excited for him as he embarks on new journeys and fresh horizons.
