Urgent Action Update: Governor Vetoes Senate Bill 376

Dear UC Advocate:

On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students of the University of California, I wish to offer my heartfelt appreciation for your support of a veto request on Senate Bill 376 (Lara), the measure that sought to create added requirements when the University contracts out for services.

As you may know, Governor Brown recently vetoed this legislation, which, if signed into law, would have imposed significant unplanned costs on UC’s operating budget. Meeting our public service obligations to the state in a cost effective manner is an important priority for the University. This legislation would have set back those efforts considerably by imposing requirements that are not necessary.
We are thankful that after weeks of thoughtful consideration, the Governor agreed with our position and vetoed the measure. This was our top legislative priority for 2015, and we would not have been successful without your support and many others like you throughout California.
I am honored to lead the University of California, the greatest public university system in the world, and I am humbled by the strong support we receive, as evidenced by your response to our call to action.
I offer our heartfelt thanks.
Yours very truly,
Janet Napolitano
