Community & Local Relations

Being a community partner.

At its core, that is the purpose of Community & Local Government Relations (C&LGR) at UCLA. With close to 200 programs and over 1,200 partners, C&LGR works to raise UCLA’s profile in the community and highlight the university’s presence in neighborhoods across the greater Los Angeles area. Please take a moment to visit our Community Directory and see why we say, “UCLA lives where I live.” Our mission is to build bridges between UCLA, the greater Los Angeles community, and the government entities with which we interact each day by providing ideas, information, counsel, and assistance. In the process, we seek to strengthen support for UCLA, the University of California, and public higher education by linking the campus to government and the community.

Current Priorities

    • Develop and maintain relationships with local elected officials, their staff, and departments: Los Angeles Mayor’s Office, Los Angeles City Council, County Board of Supervisors, and other municipalities in the greater Los Angeles area, such as: Culver City, Santa Monica, and Inglewood
    • Foster good neighbor relationships by providing information on major events, construction, or capital projects that affect noise and/or traffic flow to the community surrounding UCLA
    • Host Annual UCLA Advocacy Day in Downtown Los Angeles
    • Co-host annual Luskin School of Public Affairs Day at City Hall
    • Host candidate/election forums in the district with campus and external partners
    • Invite legislators to campus for meetings and special events
    • Host educational forums on issues of interest to the community
    • Strengthen university engagement through community participation, neighbor involvement, and support of community organizations
