Janet joined UCLA in March 2023 and manages various issues impacting the university and its 11 professional schools. Before joining UCLA, Ms. Lopez spent 11 years working as the Executive Director of State Government Relations and registered lobbyist for the University of Southern California (USC). She has worked for a diverse group of employers to promote early childhood education and health care access for low-income populations. She also worked on K-12 and higher education policy issues for both Governor Schwarzenegger and Governor Davis. Janet is the first in her family to attend college and has been a longstanding volunteer for the Chicano/Latino Youth Leadership Project. Janet is a product of California’s public K-12 education system and is a proud alumna of U.C. Berkeley where she received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Political Science and History. She also holds a Master in Public Administration (M.P.A) from USC’s Sol Price School of Public Policy. Janet, an English Learner, grew up in Galt, California.
